Classed as one of France’s major natural attractions, the Baie de Somme is a 70km² protected natural heritage area suitable for outdoor activities on the coast of Picardy. It includes a nature reserve of 3,000 hectares which is home to rare species of flora and fauna such as seals, numerous birds and maritime wildlife.
The Baie de Somme attracts sporting enthusiasts and visitors to its many outdoor leisure activities including a cycle path which runs around the bay, the Golf de Belle Dune golf club and the Aquaclub aquatic complex. The beaches at Crotoy and Saint-Valéry, as well as three fishing harbours and marinas have everything you need for a holiday near the sea and countryside, while the Parc du Marquenterre allows visitors to get close to nature through numerous different activities.
The Baie de Somme also has a wonderful cultural heritage, in particular the towns of Abbeville, Saint-Riquier and Rue, which all have fine examples of Flamboyant Gothic architecture. The Musée Picarvie (museum) in the old medieval town of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme takes visitors back in time to discover traditional crafts and trades of 19th century Picardy.
The Jardins de Valloire feature 5,000 different species of plants and shrubs in beautifully landscaped gardens around a Cistercian abbey steeped in history.
