Holidays in Alsace
Alsace, what a beautiful garden !
The Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin regions have a great choice of both town and country accommodation : self-catering gites, B&Bs, gites for groups, gites for children and campsites. As Louis XIV said on visiting Alsace : 'Alsace, what a beautiful garden !
Visiting Alsace, and Bas-Rhin in particular, means discovering the European capital of Strasbourg. Stroll through the narrow streets of Petite France, admire the famous Strasbourg Cathedral and visit the city’s many museums like the well-known Musée Alsacien. You can also enjoy bike rides through our beautiful region along more than 2,500km of cycle routes. And don’t forget to visit one of the most picturesque towns : Obernai.
History enthusiasts can enjoy a journey back to the Middle Ages at the very well-known Château du Haut Koenigsbourg castle or at the Bibliothèque Humaniste (Humanist Library) at Sélestat. And of course you simply must try exceptional wines along the Route des Vins Wine Trail which starts in the delightful village of Cleebourg.
Alsace offers a complete change of scenery. You only have to stroll through Colmar or along the quayside at Wissembourg, follow a footpath through the hills and mountains or stop off at a wine cellar in Riquewihr, have a drink at a winstub in Strasbourg or go to a village fete, to witness the gentle harmony and cordiality of a well-balanced way of life which is the product of many generations. It is easy to understand why Alsace is such a wonderful place to mosey around at any time of year.
